when I click play it just shows a black screen. I'm on chrome

Hi, Recently that same bug was reported on Discord. Unfortunately, I don't have a solution for it. If anyone else has the same issue please let me know.

(+1)

The older versions work just fine it just the 2.0 version

hola

Hello!

HI!

(1 edit)

¡Mi Bien!

muy bien?

or just mi bien!

(1 edit)

I guess Duolingo is wrong then  because isn't mi in Spanish im (or wait is it me if so then that doesn't make sense hmmmm)

(+1)

suggestion: able to buy other game studios, able to make a publishing buisness / buy them so we can like self publish but we are the company. able to do some optimizeations. (srry for bad english)

Yyyyyyeeeeeessssss

Man that is one buggy game

Also self made billionaire from one game :D (technically there's four but I basically made all my money from one game)

(1 edit)

Yeah self-publishing is very very very very very very very very... broken(can you imagine the YouTube title like I made 1 billion dollars in a year in tech Giants lol)

We need a lore like are all these game companies in the same universe just like a little bit extra nothing like making it all story focused just to make everything make sense (also why isn't there multiplayer actually I get it's a web game but still how has nobody suggested that yet)

Multiplayer was suggested on Discord, I have experimented with the idea. However, its expensive to run servers, the only way I can see it happening is by allowing players to self host servers.

I'm trying to add a pinch of storyline in there, I hope you can playtest it when it's ready.

(4 edits)

I'm starting to burn myself out on the game soooooo I'm just going to start answering questions I hope you all understand :D

(Okay maybe I lied a bit but I'm definitely burning myself out)

(+1)

would you mind explaining what each of the icons mean under the game development sprites bar? Like audio engineering, ai, writing, etc. I don’t don’t know which icon is which skill

(+1)

Do you mean these? They represent feature categories.

(+2)

That's fun you should put it in the game. A how to play menu or something would be nice.

thanks, that helped. I thought the graphics icon was for design or art, and I was getting really confused

2025 :)

(+1)

YOU'RE IN THE FUTURE!?!?

yes….

2010 :)

How can i self-publish games? That option is not available

If my memory serves me correctly, you can only self-publish PC games

(1 edit) (+1)

question? Are the consoles in this game picked by you to be popular?

Like some consoles won’t sell well and rebellium picks like “that console will be popular” or is it random or smh

It's the exact same down to the same thousand at most

(+1)

Wow, you counted them? It warms my heart that someone took a closer look at the numbers. I spend a lot of time reading old sales figures and magazines to make it as historically accurate as possible.

:'D

(+1)

The console units sold reflect historical figures, With some margin for error and a little of randomization.

(+1)

ah GREAT! Ready for the ps2 :) also if you make a Wii type thing you should make it so you need to pick if you need to use a nunchuck or motion controls or none, that would be great

horror would be a good game type 👍

(+2)

Why not, right now I'm reworking the simulation part of the game. If anyone has any suggestions for new genres or themes for the upcoming version, please do share your thoughts.

8 games at once 😈 (and no not like “game 1” no it’s “Motorsport 4” or smh

Thanks so much for the screenshot

:)

what does game game scale change

(+1)

It makes the game bigger (require more points per feature) at the cost of development time.

but what good does it do

Bigger games generally sell more copies.

Generally!?!??!????

after reading this I made a studio, immediately leased all the offices, and then hired as many employees as i could, and then made a bunch of AAA games that were all made in like a day, and got 16 million dollars by 1979

Try self-publishing ;)

(+1)

In the year like 2013 or smh there should be social media ads

(+2)

Yeah, When I expand the game content into the 2000s I will add that.

W

there should also be internet ads, like banner ads on websites starting in the 90s or something

(+1)

Yes, Good suggestion.

So how is this going RN

every time I go to play the game, the game went 500 error or idk stuff with white text on background black, is it because of my wifi, maybe I think this game require wifi?

Could've gone down (500 is internal server error but I'm not working in backend)

The web version does require WIFI, but if you are running the Windows version, it does not. In any case, there is not much I can help with error code 500, as Ray_the_man mentioned the Itch.io servers might have gone down. Other than that, you can try these steps:

For web version:

  • Make sure WIFI is on.
  • Make sure you have a Chromium based browser.
  • Open the game in a private tab/mode.

For Windows version:

  1. Try reinstalling the game. When prompted, choose the "Uninstall Tech Giants" option.
  2. Check "Delete the application data" (this will delete your saves).
  3. Install the game as usual.

I am on School Chromebook

wait, can you make offline game, For example. hardware tycoon/processor and eaglercraft and others boring game with no multiplayer loaded doesn't require wifi. If big tech doesn't have any multiplayer, then why big tech require wifi?

(+1)

The game does not require a constant WIFI connection, it only needs WIFI to load the game. On browsers, the browser cache will get cleared either because you opened a lot of tabs or because your computer ran out of memory. Regardless, the game needs to be reloaded, which requires WIFI. That's how every browser game works really, unless they are built in a way that stores the game files for offline use, but I would think that's quite rare and has its own problems.

The game will have a Linux version in the future. However, as you mentioned, you run the game on a school computer, which means you probably can't install any apps on it because of admin privileges.

I did that when i loaded the game beore wifi go bye, it only last about 5 min because of 500 error, so. why don't you just make offline verison when 2.0 released?

(2 edits) (+2)

when 2.0 release, it already 2059 year  🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

(+1)

I can only say it will be before GTA 7 comes out 😄

(+1)

:P

(+1)

:P

(+1)

i have a idea its called tech giants that means tech not just games we could make our own stuff

I don't know how many times he said it but it's coming it's been coming since the beginning of the game.

ok

(+1)

This one is on me, Ray_the_man. The other players are excited about the game and want to know what's next. A roadmap will help everyone understand what goes into the upcoming version. However, the reality is that I don't know what goes into the next version either, even though I'm developing it. Sometimes I add features just before a set deadline, and sometimes, when they are buggy or unfinished, I remove them completely. That's what happened to hardware development in v0.2

(+1)

Haha yeah game development is hard work.

At least you haven't abandoned it yet!

(+1)

I agree. I have been working on expanding Tech Giants into hardware, applications, etc. It's just taking forever to make it happen.

okay so its either im bad at this game or im not reading enough

(+1)

I want to say it's a skill issue 😅, but the game has balancing problems, so it's probably that.

(1 edit) (+1)

Make a console self-published (drh-80) sell it for $1000 then $0 and you'll be a billionaire in no time you don't even have to research

(2 edits) (+2)

could you make it so we can release games on multiple consoles also great game can you publish your game yourself

(+1)

I went bankrupt because my mouse double clicked negotiating with a company that would get 87% of the money causeing me to go bankrupt

(+1)

Yes. And, we should get a warning when we are about to go bankrupt

I agree

(+1)

Oh, That's a UI/UX problem. Thanks for letting me know.

(1 edit)

can you add more consoles that are just powerful beacause I’m at year 2000 and I need new popular console's, also portable consoles would be cool like a Wii (Rii) or (sii) also a storage would be cool like this game is 8 gigabytes and won’t fit on ROM cartridge

We'll see v0.3 about February to March I think and that just seems pretty obvious so I think it should be added.

(1 edit)

also more offices will be good next gen games so slow to make.

(+1)

Absolutely we should get a a response from the dev soon

We will get more consoles in the game. But, v0.3 will only come out when its ready.

(+1)(-1)

I was just saying based off around November when you said you were released in about 6 months :)

(1 edit)

Yii maybe?

I was about to use UwU, but Yii is the better choice

:D

(+1)

Mario Kart! I'M RICH! HAHAHAHAHA

(1 edit)

RICH ,I SAY!!

Oh no

I’m just better

OH NO WE'RE DOOMED INTO NO PRODUCTION

OH, YEAH!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

The game could be interesting if it was faster

For the one billionth time there's not much stuff to do

Just letting people remember but there's a Reddit at : https://www.reddit.com/r/TechGiants/

(1 edit)

Puzzle is on SERIOUS life support LOL

(+2)

LOL, You know what because of your gameplay style I will add DEAD Genres.

(1 edit)

My dream has come true I've affected the game! hold on I'm going to pinch myself make sure I'm not dreaming I'm not okay good (I actually did make it die they need to be more dynamic like if one's on it gets really far ahead everybody is just going to make that genre because it's the best genre and the last genre will very quickly die)

About that last part actually it could become more saturated which is a debuff because well that's realistic. if you make one in a small genre it won't do very well unless you're an established game publisher in that case it's popularity will explode so that creating different games is rewarded.

So how's it going right now?

You mean the development progress? Slow and steady.

(+1)

How I would expect. don't forget to mention me in the devlog!

I seen genres die before trust me it can happen

So close to a new record I'm at 54 games and development right now because I made a little automated script

99.79% at most rip all production and labor

Project market share is a BIG success

The secret to success making big games making your games free!?!?!

(1 edit)

sad to report this cuz its actually kinda fun to exploit:

so the advertising works weird, so if you buy 1 international ad it creates a stack of international ads, but then when you buy local versions of that ad (a lot cheaper) , it doesnt create a new stack, but instead just adds the amount to the stack of international ads for local versions. meaning you can get internationa ads for a lot cheaper than you should. this also works in reverse, so you could get ripped off if you buy international ads but already have a stack of local or national ads running.

(if its already reported and i missed it then my bad :3

:3

(+1)

Yeah, advertising was always broken.

Oh well you can't find and fix every bug

$1M speedrun

(2 edits)

Rookie numbers I get it in 3 days after I release my first game after about a month I've not got a billion but I would probably get it after ~5-10 years (but IRL my perfectionist self gets the best of me and I reset to get better market share)

(+2)

very nice game, but very slow, I wait probably 10 minutes, when the game is finished, you can add 3x and 4x time

It's not slow, it's just a game with nothing much to do.

Yeah it might have been 3 years but it's still in the early stages

(5 edits) (+1)

Even when coming back to this game i find it very fun, although my perfectionist self gets the best of me, and i keep resetting runs just get a little better results.

I do wish some things weren't so exploitable, like you can hire a team and then just before the month ends, fire them. which makes you pay slot less than you should. 2nd advertising your game is weird, cuz everytime you open and close the window the prices reset, so the best way is just to go in n' out till you get the best prices. feels like the prices should rotate daily instead.

Also i'd love to see difficulty settings in the future. But im getting carried away, so merry christmas, happy new year and keep up the good work!

I will keep your feedback in mind, Thanks for playing Tech Giants!

(+4)

Can you please make it so you can scrap games in development, i designed a big game and then I realized that i made it on a platform no longer in production

Yes, for sure.

Am I supposed to wait long to start the game? I'm on browser.

Not really, if the wait time is more than a few seconds, it's probably a browser specific bug. You could try to switch your browser.

I'm on Safari. Is the problem specific to that browser?

Yes, Safari is not fully supported.

I see, thank you.

chromium browsers work, like chrome or Brave (my reccomendation.

(+2)

I know I've already commented on here but I just wanted to say to keep up the good work!

(+3)

Thank you so much for the support!

(1 edit)

Where did the music come from?

(+2)

It was made by my brother. There is a credits page that you can access by clicking on the version number in the main menu.

I just realized how bad and obscure the UX is.

Your brother definitely has some experience!

Any chance we could get the ability to update already released games in the future?

(+2)

Yes, of course. In real life, it was rare for hard copies of games to get an update after release, but it did happen. So yes, I will definitely think about adding it to the game. Thanks for the suggestion.

Never knew that (I'm just reviewing comments and commenting when I see fit)

Are there any other platforms you unlock later in the game

(+1)

As of v0.2.0, Ataru XE is the last platform that is unlocked in 1987

Damn I’m at 2000, I want to use that console for GREAT game's but it’s so un popular.

(+2)

Would you add Contracts in a future update. I'd like to see a feature where we can sign advertisement contracts so that I don't have to create more ads every month.

(+2)

Probably in v0.3.0

(+1)

Do any more things happen after the nes discontinues? My game is in 1997 with 2 billion dollars and I'm just waiting for something else to come out

(+1)

No, nothing else happens after that.

Have you decided to port the game to our country's gaming platform? The webmaster consents to portability

And please send your email address to contact you.

Hi, I was busy working on the new version, and unfortunately, I did not have time to follow up.

(1 edit)

The game is not working for me, it worked before but now only the "Create Game" button is working and even then when the game gets created, I am unable to release it because that button too is not working.

It shows 500 Internal Error after the game gets created

Hi, that's an interesting bug. It's probably not the game but the underlying tooling that causes it. I'm guessing you played the game before v0.2.0? If you are playing the browser version, try changing your browser to see if it fixes the problem.

(1 edit)

Hey thanks, that worked. I also have a question, are you able to effext the console sales of a platform? For example if you make games for another platform can that cause the sales of that particular platform to increase?

(1 edit)

My memory is rusty, but I believe you can't affect the sales of platforms.

(+1)

trying to not be rude but when 0.3.0 released

(+3)

I think in the next 6 months v0.3.0 will be ready. I have been remaking the whole game, it's going to take a while.

Remaking the whole game! That must be a lot of work but still patches and stuff will probably come soon. I'm guessing 0.3 will also (finally) let you make your own devices

What's your prediction now 4 months later?

Another 5 to 6 months, You can keep up with the progress by looking at the Discord. I do a by monthly devlog there.

Ah ok
